Recognizing the need for increased fitness for our members, a plan was presented to the City Council in September of 1997 for the construction and equipping of a fitness center for our employees and other city employees.  This proposal included a plan for a fitness program for all Fire Department employees.

After much discussion, approval was given to proceed with the project.  All construction labor was provided by members of the Fire Department while on-duty.  There was no reduction in the performance of our regular duties while construction was taking place.  Not including labor, this 24' X 30' fitness room was constructed and equipped for a cost of approximately $30,000.

Our fitness center opened it's doors in March of 1998 and since then has averaged 120 hours use per month.  Predominately, it is used by members of the Fire Department, Police Department and members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol stationed in our area.
